Our System

Our “Manage Your Money System” (MYMS) was developed to help married couples and individuals translate what it means to put their faith into practice as they live each day. Many people go to church, and hear good preaching and teaching, but find it hard to make the incremental changes and develop habits, for everyday living. This is especially true as it relates handling money beyond the tithe or 10%. It is sometimes believed that God is only interested in what goes into the collection plate when in fact God is concerned about you and 100% of your money. Money plays a major role in marriage and is one of the leading causes of divorce.

Money Management

Money is among the top three causes of marital discord and personal stress in many homes. The primary reason is that our priorities are out of order. Matthew 6:33 is the established priority that God has called us to.

Most of us would agree that COVID-19 was a time that we were not prepared for. There are times when life seems to go in one direction or the other...like the seasons, but this was a very long season of uncertainty in many areas, such as our money.

I want to challenge you to see that this is the season to get your house in order. It is a wakeup call to discipline yourself and gain control of your money. We are living in uncertain times as far as the economy is concerned, but our lives could not be more certain when we are living in faith. These times remind me of the years of famine that Joseph prepared for. When things were good, Joseph stored up enough resources to last during times of leanness. Read Genesis chapter 41.

That, I believe is a lesson for us. God had Joseph in the right place, at the right time to be able to interpret the Pharoah’s dream of warning that there would be a seven-year season of abundance and a seven-year season of famine. Yet, we had no such warning that COVID-19 was coming. Joseph understood that during the times of abundance, he was not to allow all that was produced to be consumed, but a portion was to be held in reserve for the times when there would be scarcity and lack. This is another good lesson for us to learn in light of the current economic climate.

When the economy is good, we are to save and manage our money well, so that when we run into difficult times, we have enough to ride out the storm. Okay, if you didn't do it when things were good...you can start now. To start now is a decision that you must make to set some goals, control your spending, get out of debt, and start saving.

There is a lot of talk about going back to normal. Businesses are opening and people are excited, but be careful, because many businesses will be trying to recover and increase their bottom line at your expense. In many cases, you have less, but you will be asked to pay more. This is a lose- lose proposition, if you can, try to delay or postpone purchasing things you don’t need, and concentrate on your own recovery.

You must start saving, even if you think that you don't have anything to save. Start looking at your spending by writing down every dime that you spend for the next month. Once you see it in writing, go back through it again and start eliminating areas that you do not absolutely need. It is for the benefit of having a reserve for an emergency. If you have an emergency fund, you are able to relax and have some peace while things in the economy get better. All of this requires discipline which may be hard, but not impossible. Remember, with God all things are possible to those who believe. I want to encourage you to start now. You will not be disappointed. I am praying that you will see the benefits of saving for a rainy day so that you will have less stress in your life.

God Bless You!

ABOUT REV. DR. HICKS

Rev. Dr. Hicks developed a model combining faith and personal money management as her Doctor of Ministry Project entitled “Blow the Trumpet in Zion: Sound an Alarm” A Community-Based Ministry for Financial Literacy. The project emphasizes a biblical understanding of God’s economy, and our responsibility to end all forms of master-slave relationships and be faithful to God. To that end, many have experienced changed lives through her coaching and education to become faithful managers of the resources that God has entrusted to them. This is especially helpful for married couples who never discuss money before marriage or find themselves struggling with money, which leads to arguments in the home. Rev. Hicks teaches that believers should exemplify faithfulness to God in every area of life, including their finances.

Free Discipleship Resources

A plan is necessary so that one will know whether or not they are successful. Just because you are attending church and going to Bible study doesn’t mean that it is changing your life. If you don’t put what you learn into practice then what is it for. To put this in practical terms, if you are short tempered or consistently late in paying your bills, or consistently late for work as your relationship with God grows and you understand more about His character your life should likewise be affected. When you write your plan you would should be specific and include areas that you want to see developed and fine tuned in your life.

George Barna said that most believers say their faith matters, but they don’t invest in their own growth and development. As individuals, we must decide and then act on a plan of action to grow and develop spiritually.

Coaching Services

Let us help you move forward with your goals.

Coaching is not therapy, mentoring, or counseling. It is partnering with the client/coachee to focus on an issue or obstacle that you deem in need to work in order to move to some actionable step in moving forward. Moving forward in the session, and working toward the outcome that the coachee envisions.  Coaching is 100% focused on the coachee. The following briefly describes the process:

01

Establish Connection/Rapport between Coach and Coachee - Establish trust and maintain confidentiality.

02

Establish the coaching agreement and desired outcome from the coachee. (Your desired outcome will be the Firm Foundation upon which you will build or take action toward.)

03

Produce discoveries, insights and perspective in the coachee through good questions that focus on the desired outcome.

04

Help the coachee create actionable steps toward the desired outcome. These could be baby steps in the right direction.

05

Focus on reviewing the parts of the conversation that led to the desired outcome, summarize it, name it, and establish accountability and closure for the session.

A Full-Time Partnership

We will partner with you to evoke awareness (in you) of the necessary changes that you desire to make, in order to reach your desired outcome. If desired by the coachee, each session will end in prayer.

Firm Foundation Ministries is committed to coaching and educating you to build upon a solid and firm foundation that you establish as your starting point.
